Policies

Policies that actually change how things work.

Leave, working hours, attendance, expenses, performance, learning, onboarding and offboarding are each a policy. Publishing one makes People enforce it, so your leave rules and approval chains come straight from what you wrote.

  • 15 built-in categories, plus Custom for anything else
  • New policy: Policy type, Questions, Rules & approvals, Applies to, Review & publish
  • Apply to everyone, team members, contractors or specific departments
Sign-off

Know exactly who has read it.

Ask your team to acknowledge a policy and they see a banner with one button: I acknowledge this. Change the policy and everyone signs again, because an old signature never carries forward.

  • Needs Acknowledgement and Acknowledgements views
  • Pending, overdue and progress for every policy
  • Remind anyone who hasn't signed in one click
Knowledge base

Write down the thing people keep asking about.

A knowledge base for everything your team should be able to look up: how the company works, what each department does and the policies behind it. Pages sit in spaces for the company, a department, a team or a topic.

  • A company handbook space created for you
  • Spaces per department or team, set up in one click
  • Visible to Everyone, Members only or HR only, with page versions
Versions

Every change on the record.

Each published policy keeps its history: the version, when it was published, who changed it and why. Requests made under an older rule keep that rule, so nothing gets rewritten after the fact.

  • Version, Published on, Changed by, Change summary
  • Make this a policy turns any page into a policy, with or without sign-off
  • Start from a policy template and edit it for your team

Questions about the handbook

What is employee handbook software?
A place to write your company's rules and how-tos, share them with your team and track who has read them. In startbuddi the rules also drive how leave and approvals work.
How do I track who has read our company policies?
Mark a policy as needing sign-off. Everyone it applies to gets a banner with "I acknowledge this", and the Acknowledgements view shows who is pending or overdue, with a Remind button.
Do you have policy templates for a small business?
Yes. Start from a policy template, answer a few questions (Chip can suggest answers from a short description), then edit it for your team and publish.
What happens when I change a policy?
It becomes a new version with a change summary, everyone it applies to is asked to sign again, and requests made under the old version keep the old rule.
Is this legal advice?
No. startbuddi and Chip help you write and run your own policies; check anything legal with a professional in your country.
