How to write an invoice that gets paid
"Due 11 October" is easier to act on than "Net 14". Use a real date.
Use the words from your quote so the client recognises every line.
Put your payment details in the notes, and a reference so you can match the payment.
Add your line items and get a clean, professional invoice — free, no signup, no watermark.
Questions
Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes. No account, no watermark, no limit on how many invoices you make. If you'd like invoices that send and remind clients for you, that's what startbuddi is for.
How do I save my invoice as a PDF?
Press "Download PDF". Your browser opens its print window with just the invoice. Choose "Save as PDF" (or "Microsoft Print to PDF" on Windows) as the printer, then save.
Do you keep what I type?
No. The invoice is built in your browser and nothing is sent to us. If you tick "Remember my details", your business details are saved on this device only, and "Clear form" removes them.
What should an invoice include?
Your business details, the client's details, a unique invoice number, the date, a due date, the line items, tax if you charge it, and how to pay you.
Do I need to add tax?
It depends on where you are and how much you earn. Check with a local accountant. Set tax to 0 if you don't charge it.
Quote, invoice and get paid from one place.
In startbuddi, your quotes, invoices and client records sit together, so you can see who has paid and who needs a nudge.
Start with the one thing you need. The rest is there when you're ready.
