Why use a WhatsApp link generator?

Good first messages
A pre-filled message does two jobs. It gets the conversation going, and it tells you where the customer came from. Use a different message for each place you share the link:

Keep it short and in the customer's words. A long message feels like a form, and people delete it.

Common mistakes
- Leaving the leading zero in. 234 0801… won't work. The generator removes a zero straight after the country code when you type the plus sign and country code first.
- Using a number nobody watches. A link that gets no reply for a day costs you more than no link at all. Say your hours in the message or on your profile.
- Not testing it. Tap "Test the link" and send yourself a message from another phone before you print anything.

Questions
What is a wa.me link?
It is WhatsApp's own click-to-chat address. When someone taps it, WhatsApp opens a chat with your number, even if they have not saved you as a contact. On a computer it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app.
Do I need WhatsApp Business to use it?
No. The link works with a normal WhatsApp number or a WhatsApp Business number. WhatsApp Business adds things like a business profile and quick replies, which help once the chats start coming in.
Why does the number need the country code?
WhatsApp needs the full international number to find you, without the leading zero, spaces or a plus sign. The generator tidies that up for you: type +234 801 234 5678 and the link uses 2348012345678.
Can the customer change the pre-filled message?
Yes. The message appears in their typing box, ready to send, and they can edit it or delete it first. Nothing is sent until they press send.
Does the link expire?
No. It works for as long as your WhatsApp number does. It is not a short link through our servers.
