How to write a quote that gets a yes
Name each piece of work the way the client would, not in trade terms.
Show how long the price holds, so an old quote cannot come back to bite you.
Leave space to sign, say what happens next, and ask for a deposit on bigger jobs.
Questions
What is the difference between a quote and an invoice?
A quote comes before the work: it says what you will do and what it will cost, and the client agrees to it. An invoice comes after (or at a milestone) and asks for payment.
How long should a quote be valid for?
Thirty days is common. Use a shorter period if your costs change often, and always show the date so nobody argues over an old price later.
How do I save my quote as a PDF?
Press "Download PDF". Your browser opens its print window with just the quote. Choose "Save as PDF" as the printer, then save.
Should I ask for a deposit?
For larger jobs, a deposit before you start protects your time and shows the client is committed. Add a percentage and the quote shows the amount due to start.
Do you keep what I type?
No. The quote is built in your browser and nothing is sent to us.
