How it works
A website, a message, a phone call, your Wi-Fi or your contact details.
Keep it dark on a light background so every phone can read it.
SVG for print, PNG for screens. Scan it once before you print a batch.
A free QR code generator with no expiry
Many "free" QR code makers send your code through their own short link, then switch it off after a trial or add adverts to the page it opens. The codes from this free QR code generator are static: what you type is written straight into the pattern. There is no middle step, no account and nothing to expire.
Ideas for a small business
- Front desk or counter: a Website code that opens your booking page or a review page, so happy customers can leave a review before they walk out.
- Flyers and posters: a WhatsApp code with a message already written, such as "Hi, I saw your flyer". You'll know where the chat came from.
- Waiting area: a Wi-Fi code for your guest network, so nobody has to ask for the password.
- Business cards: a Contact card code that saves your name, number and email straight to the phone.
- Invoices and receipts: a code that opens your payment page or next booking.
Getting a QR code to scan every time
- Print it big enough. About 2.5 cm (1 inch) across for a card, bigger for a poster people scan from a few steps away. As a rough rule, the code should be a tenth of the scanning distance.
- Keep contrast high. Dark code, light background. Light codes on dark backgrounds don't scan on every phone.
- Leave the white border. The quiet space around the code helps the camera find it.
- Keep the content short. A short link makes a simpler pattern that scans faster from further away.
Want to know how many people scan a website code? Tag the link with our free UTM builder first, then make the code from the tagged link. If it's for your booking page, the booking link QR code tool is set up for exactly that.
Questions
Do these QR codes expire?
No. They are static codes: the website, number or details are written straight into the pattern, with no redirect through our servers. They work for as long as the thing they point to does.
Can I change where the QR code points after I print it?
Not with a static code. If you think the link might change, point the code at a page you control, such as your website or link in bio, and update that page instead.
Is there a limit on how many I can make?
No. Make as many as you like, for as many locations, products or flyers as you need.
SVG or PNG: which should I download?
SVG for anything printed, because it stays sharp at any size. PNG for social posts, slides and tools that only take images.
Does the Wi-Fi QR code share my password?
Yes, anyone who scans it can join the network, just as if you had told them the password. Use it for a guest network rather than the one your business computers are on.
How can I track how many people scan it?
Static codes cannot count scans themselves. For a website code, add UTM tags to the link with our free UTM builder, and your analytics will show the visits that came from the code.
