Business Plan Template
Free Word template for startups and small service businesses writing a plan for themselves, a bank, or investors.
A business plan forces you to answer questions you might otherwise avoid: who exactly is the customer, how big is the market really, and what does the math actually look like over the next two years.
This template covers the standard sections: executive summary, company description, market analysis, organisation, products and services, marketing and sales strategy, and financial plan. It is structured for a founder writing it for the first time, not a template built for consultants to charge for filling in.

Questions
Do I need a business plan if I’m not raising investment?
It's still useful even if you're self-funded or bootstrapping. The exercise of writing it clarifies your own thinking about the market and the numbers, which matters regardless of whether anyone else reads it.
How long should a business plan be?
For most small service businesses, 5-15 pages is enough. Save the 40-page version for when a specific investor or lender asks for that level of detail.
Which section should I write first?
Anything except the Executive Summary. Write that last, once the rest of the plan exists to summarise.
